ER overcrowding puts Beds in Hallways
Hospital ERs have been so overcrowded that many hospitals have taken to putting beds in the hallways. The study suggests that patients in the hallway can have a greater risk of death. Thirteen percent of the fifteen-hundred doctors surveyed have experienced a patient dying as a result of a lack of boarding at their hospital.
This is a problem that could be solved by putting money into expansions of the ERs. Sure it could cost millions, and most likely would; but using ProCPR for your CPR certifications would save both time and money that could be spent on bettering your hospital much sooner.
“They sent me up here to make room for other emergency patients,” Gray, 78, said last week from his bed in the hall of a New York area hospital. “This is the way things are in hospitals.”
It may not sound like ideal health care, but hospital officials nationwide are being urged to consider hallway medicine as a way to ease emergency department crowding, and some are trying it.
