Chicago Mayor Daley proclaims “‘ER’ Day in Chicago” to Salute the Series 15th and Final Season
Mayor Richard M. Daley today thanked the producers, crew and cast members of the NBC drama “ER”, from Warner Bros. Television, for their contributions to Chicago.
Currently in its fifteenth and final season, “ER”, the longest running production ever to film in Chicago will complete its final shoot in the city this weekend.
“For the past 16 years the cast and crew of ‘ER’ have come to Chicago to film scenes that feature the urban character of our city – from landmarks like the Michigan Avenue Bridge
to diverse neighborhoods like this one,” said Mayor Daley near the production set in the city’s Uptown neighborhood. “Although ‘ER’ is set in a fictional hospital, the drama showcases Chicago as it truly is – an urban city of immigrants with strong neighborhoods, attractive surroundings, and abundant cultural and recreational opportunities.”
Joined by “ER” executive producer Christopher Chulack and “ER” cast members, Noah Wyle, Parminder Nagra, and David Lyons, the Mayor proclaimed it “‘ER’ DAY IN CHICAGO” and urged all Chicagoans to be aware of the many contributions the series has made to help the image that Chicago enjoys worldwide. Chulack then presented the Mayor with a large framed autographed poster of the current cast of “ER”.
The Mayor also stressed the importance that the film industry has on the City’s local economy. “ER” has pumped nearly $33.5 million into the local economy during its 16-year stint filming in Chicago. Since 1989, more than 800 feature films and television projects have contributed more than $1.3 billion to the local economy and provided more than 250,000 local hires. At least 50 television shows and 30 films were shot in Chicago last year.
“These productions also showcase our city to a national and international audience, which is more important than ever as we seek to become the host city for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” said Mayor Daley.
