Attention ER fans: George Clooney and Julianna Margulies are coming back!

ER's Julianna Margulies and George Clooney return this spring

George Clooney was on ER back when I watched the show, and really had no idea who he was.  I was in high school at the time, and wasn’t aware of the popularity of really anyone in any cast over another.  The only other things that I’ve seen Clooney in are the Ocean’s Trilogy, Three Kings, O Brother, Where Art Thou? and Spy Kids.

Entertainment Tonight is reporting that the actor is returning to the role that arguably made him a star in an episode of ER that will be airing this spring.

Clooney left the show in 1999 to go into the film industry, but returned for an episode in 2000 to provide some closure to his character’s story.  I expect that this return to the show is inspired by a return to visit the family that he left behind on the set.  It’s a good way to pay his respects to the show that brought him from the B-list to the A-list.  He was on the show from 1994-2000 and appeared in 108 episodes in the role of Dr. Doug Ross.

Julianna Margulies kept herself busy with a number of projects over the years, and even returned to medical tv shows with a two-episode guest appearance on Scrubs in 2004.  She played Neena Broderick, a malpractice attorney who represented a patient that wanted to sue the hospital.

She, too, was on ER from 1994 to 2000, though she appeared in 134 episodes in the role of Nurse Carol Hathaway.

It is unclear when the episode will air, but it’ll be interesting to see what happens next as the long running series makes its’ final run.
